The Capital Amateur Athletic Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Water Street Hospital hosted a week of entertainment when they held their Hospital Carnival. The affair was in the nature of a bazaar / English music hall / with lunches, dinners and afternoon teas served and took place in the Capital Club Rooms from April 10th through the 18th – The event was opened by the Countess of Minto, and there were many donors including Lord Strathcona. They planned very diverse and continuous entertainment ranging from a piano and vocal recital with Miss Emily Heintzman, soprano of Toronto, and Mr. Frank S. Weisman pianist of Toronto with accompanist Miss Nelda Heintzman; Lu H. Mansfield, an impersonator from New York; and several local entertainers including Lou Brophy, Richard O’Connor, Harry Sproule, Alva Armstrong and Hugh Doyle. John Deslaurier showed moving pictures of the Transvaal War. On the last evening a lecture was given by Canon Low on the Merits and Demerits of the Revised New Testament.
