BELGIUM 1832 Marriage of Leopold I to Louise d'Orleans 27mm bronze medal 8.95 grams by Laurent Joseph Hart
Obverse: hands clasped under a crown surrounded by border and legend, COMPIEGNE LE VII AOUT MDCCCXXXII (This medal gives the date as August 7th. Hart did four medals for the wedding and there is another version of this medal that has the correct date.
Reverse: within closed wreath, MARIAGE DE LEOPOLD I ROI DES BELGES AVEC LOUISE D'ORLEANS
Louise-Marie Thérèse Charlotte Isabelle of Orléans (3 April 1812 – 11 October 1850) was the first queen of the Belgians as the second wife of King Leopold I from their marriage on 9 August 1832 until her death in 1850. On 9 August 1832, the twenty-year-old Louise married King Leopold I of the Belgians, at the Compiègne Palace.
Laurent Joseph Hart (1810 - 1860 Belgian medallist / sculptor was born in Antwerp. Studied under Braemt, Veyrat, and Jouvenel. Worked as an engraver at the mints of Brussels and Utrecht.
