BELGIUM CONGO Jules Renkin Voyage to the Belgian Congo with Prince Albert 60mm bronze medal 91.87 grams (Vancraenbroeck 122), softly sculpted

In 1909 Jules Renkin (1864-1938) toured the Congo with Prince Albert the future King of the Belgians. Renkin was Prime Minister for the Belgian Colonies. SS Bruxellesville was sold and under the ownership of the Spanish Compañía Trasmediterranea was bombed and beached in March 1943; she was re-floated but then bombed again and sunk in May 1943. The SS Léopoldville was built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast for the Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo. Sold in 1914. It was a later ship of the same name that was torpedoed in 1944 during World War II. The medal was commissioned by Sir Alfred Jones, Chairman of the Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo.
