Union Saint-Joseph of Ottawa later became the Union Saint-Joseph du Canada and it founded 630 branches, including 510 in Quebec. The movement was based on the principle of the fraternal society, either an insurance cooperative or an association of a religious, national nature, for the benefit of the working class.
