Description
GREAT BRITAIN Engraved Queen Victoria 1897 Diamond Jubilee on 1837 silver 32.3 mm Half Crown 12.6 grams
The host coin is a William IV 1837 Half Crown designed by Jean B. Merlen. It depicts a crowned shield bearing the Royal Arms on mantle, and at the base the Collar of the Garter. Below: ANNO 1837. It is fitting choice for a Queen Victoria memento as she became Queen and Empress in June 1837. Two other important dates are also referenced for in 1887, the British Empire celebrated Victoria's Golden Jubilee. She marked the fiftieth anniversary of her accession on 20 June with a banquet to which 50 kings and princes were invited. The third date was her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
