MASONIC PENNY Ontario, Napanee Mount Sinai Chapter R.A.M. No. 44 G.R.C. Red Uncirculated

This piece was part of the Strong Museum's Collection. While there is nothing included with the Masonic Penny to support this, it is part of a lot that was offered by Stacks Bowers when the museum sold its coin collection. The Strong: National Museum of Play located in Rochester, one of Upstate New York’s premier attractions. Highly interactive displays are devoted to the history and exploration of play and are part of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of historical materials related to play. Margaret Woodbury Strong, a prolific collector of everyday objects, especially dolls and toys, founded The Strong in 1968 under the name “Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum of Fascination.” Before her death in 1969, Mrs. Strong bequeathed her considerable estate to help support the museum, and 13 years later it opened in a new 156,000-square-foot building on 13.5 acres in downtown Rochester. Now known simply as The Strong, it spans more than 282,000 square feet and serves global audiences on site at the museum, online, and through the work of its International Center for the History of Electronic Games, the National Toy Hall of Fame, the Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play, the Woodbury School, and the American Journal of Play. The core of The Strong displays were formed by Margaret Woodbury, born in 1897. Her father, John Charles Woodbury, was the ninth president of the Rochester Numismatic Association and was an early investor with George Eastman and Eastman Kodak.
