PROVINCE OF CANADA 1837 Bank of Montreal Penny Token ⇈ medal die axis, 17 grams Charlton #PC- 2A1 Uncirculated
The token has long been considered a mule of the 1842 and the 1837 one penny tokens, having the obverse of PC-2B (Breton 526) and the reverse of LC-9 (Breton 521). It was believed by Courteau that PC-2A1 was issued
in early 1842, prior to the release of the 1842 (PC-2B pennies. It is not the mule of the 1842 / 1837 penny as the obverse die is different from the 1842 obverse die used to mint PC-2B.
