This medal requires additional research. It is attributed University College Natural Science Association Toronto which was formed towards the close of 1879 for the promotion of the study of the natural sciences. Its membership was confined to graduates of the University of Toronto and such undergraduates as are taking the honour courses in the natural sciences in University College. Original papers are read at the meetings. The coat of arms is not that of University College, and is only vaguely similar to that of the Cawthorne family.
